The city of Cortland is the largest city in Cortland County, with easy access to Route 81. It has a population over 18,000. It offers the State University at Cortland, Cortland Central School as well as private schools such as; Cortland Christian Academy or St. Mary's Catholic School. Cortland Memorial Hospital is located in the center of the city with a large variety of physicians available. Cortland has many shopping choices both downtown or plazas and also offers the Center for the Arts, Cortland Repertory Theatre, Dowd Fine Arts Threatre, 1890 House Museum or the J. M. Sports Complex.
